My first brew!
When I first heard about brewing beer at home I didn't quite understand. Why would you go to all that trouble when you can go to the store and buy beer? Homebrewed beer has to taste aweful, right? Wrong! The best part of homebrewing is to make beer taste just like you want it! Homebrewing is extremely easy to do and with a little experience, you will only buy beer at the store for your homebrew ideas.
Like many beginners, I started with Mr. Beer. I just happened to find a kit on Craiglist for $10. The kit came with a Mr. Beer fermenter, bottles, sanitizer, and the West Coast Pale Ale kit. I was afraid that the kit wasn't any good so I ordered a 3 beer refill kit for $30 on Amazon. This was the best thing that I could have done.
After reading the directions and watching videos on youtube I decided to brew the Mr. Beer Red Ale first. I followed the directions and "brewed" my first beer in about an hour. I was amazed how simple it was. I couldn't wait to fine out how it tasted! After 2 weeks, I bottled my first home brew. After 1 more week I called a friend over to try my new beer. When we cracked open the 1 liter bottle we had no idea what to expect. It made a nice "psssssttt" sound when I opened it. I poured a couple of glasses and we enjoyed it! That moment was magical. I actually made beer! It wasn't the best beer but it was pretty damn good. I also turned a friend into a homebrewer!
